A floor waste suits a traditional centre-drain shower or wet-area floor. A linear channel suits barrier-free or large-format designs, falls to one edge, or outdoor balconies and stormwater surfaces. Both are valid waterproofing drainage choices; the selection follows the floor design.
What is a puddle flange and why is it required?
A puddle flange seals the waste penetration through the floor so water cannot track under the waterproof membrane at the drain. It is installed at the membrane layer, below the tile bed, and is a required component of a compliant wet-area drainage system.
Are the linear channels suitable for outdoor use?
Some are. The Lauxes midnight storm-water 128 and the Next-Generation 35 grate kit are rated for outdoor and high-traffic stormwater applications. The standard indoor linear drain kits are for wet-area bathrooms. Match the drain to the exposure and load.
How many floor wastes do I need?
One per wet-area floor or shower, sized to the waste pipe (80 mm or 100 mm, round or square). The Megaflex stick-down floor wastes bond directly to the membrane. Follow the plumbing design and local code.
Do wall outlets differ from floor wastes?
Yes. Wall outlets (Fatra round wall outlet, rainwater floor outlet, wall overflow) drain through a vertical surface and are used on balconies, decks, and retaining walls where water exits through the wall assembly. They are a different fitting from a floor waste.
