Below-ground waterproofing systems need both protection against backfill and a path for water to drain away. Sika® Drain-500 Geo combines a dimpled high-density polyethylene (HDPE) sheet with an integrated geotextile filtration layer, creating a drainage space alongside basement walls and other below-ground structures.
Drainage and protection behind backfill
The dimpled structure channels water away from the construction while the bonded filter layer helps prevent surrounding soil from blocking the drainage space. It is used as part of specified assemblies protecting sheet membranes, waterproofing mortars and coatings rather than as a standalone waterproofing barrier.
Roll dimensions and system compatibility
Each roll is 2.4 m wide × 20 m long (48 m²), with 8 mm dimples. Select the correct fixing, drainage termination and waterproofing detail for the installation. The sheet should not remain permanently exposed to sunlight or weathering. Follow Sika's current installation requirements, including any necessary separation layers when combining products from different membrane systems.
Technical installation limits: Sika specifies a maximum installation depth of 5 m and compression resistance of 200 ±40 kPa. Use an additional separation geotextile in contact with PVC membranes. Confirm the complete drainage and waterproofing detail before installation.
