Seal Masonry Joints & Penetrations

Seal movement joints, connection joints, penetrations and construction gaps in masonry and concrete. Select the sealant, backing material and primer from the Product evidence and joint design.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should a masonry movement joint be sealed?
Movement-joint sealing follows substrate preparation and waterproof detailing when the joint geometry and bond faces are ready. The Bostik and Sika evidence names expansion, construction, connection, facade, precast, brickwork, concrete, and masonry joints. Select a Product according to movement, substrate, exposure, joint design, and any required fire or acoustic performance.
Which Products support concrete and brickwork joints?
Bostik Seal N Flex, Sika Sikaflex PRO, Sikaflex Construction AP+, Sikaflex 11 FC+, and the related cartridge or sausage formats have local evidence naming concrete, brickwork, masonry, precast panels, cladding, or facades. The stage groups them by job sequence, not by chemistry alone. Confirm the correct format, primer, backing, and joint dimensions.
Is fire-rated sealing part of this journey?
Fireban One is included because its local evidence describes joints in insitu concrete, precast panels, blockwork, plasterboard, and fibre cement sheet requiring fire or acoustic certification. Certification is Product- and system-specific. Do not infer a fire rating for another sealant; verify the relevant installation system, joint design, and current technical documentation.
Why are different sealant formats in the same stage?
The work step is sealing a designed movement or connection joint; chemistry and pack format are later selection decisions. The stage includes cartridges, sausages, fire-rated material, and gap-filling foam only where their evidence supports masonry or concrete work. Select by joint design, movement, substrate, exposure, application tool, certification, and required finish.
What does expanding foam do in the joint-sealing stage?
MapePUR Universal Foam M/G is included because its evidence describes filling structural gaps and frame interfaces before a finished seal. Expanding foam is not the final movement-joint sealant and is not interchangeable with the joint sealants in this stage. Confirm cavity size, moisture conditions, trimming, and the required finishing seal before use.
