Use Sikaflex® Construction AP for: Sealing movement and
connection joints in porous substrates, general indoor and outdoor sealing.
Sikaflex® Construction AP is a versatile, 1-component polyurethane sealant
designed for a wide range of construction applications. Its elastic nature
accommodates movement in joints, preventing cracks and leaks. This
sealant is ideal for porous substrates like concrete, brick, and masonry,
offering strong adhesion and long-lasting durability. It's ready to use,
requiring no mixing, and can be painted over, making it a practical choice
for both professional and DIY projects.
Key Features of Sikaflex® Construction AP
-
High Movement Capability: Accommodates joint movement up to
±25%, preventing cracks and maintaining a secure seal in dynamic
structures.
-
Excellent Adhesion: Bonds strongly to porous substrates like
concrete and masonry, ensuring a durable and reliable seal.
-
Easy Application: 1-component formulation eliminates mixing,
allowing for direct application and efficient work.
-
Paintable: Can be painted over with most conventional facade
coatings, allowing for seamless integration with the surrounding finish.
-
Weather Resistant: Provides excellent durability against
weathering, ensuring long-term performance in outdoor applications.
Technical Overview
Sikaflex® Construction AP is formulated for elasticity and durability,
making it suitable for demanding construction environments. Its
non-sag properties allow for easy application on vertical and overhead
surfaces, ensuring a clean and professional finish. The sealant's
elastic recovery and tear resistance contribute to its long-term
performance in dynamically stressed joints.
Chemical Properties: 1-component polyurethane, moisture-curing,
providing a flexible and durable seal.
Application Temperature Range: +5°C to +40°C (41°F to 104°F),
ensuring usability in various climate conditions. It is recommended to apply
the product at least 3°C above the dew point temperature to prevent
condensation affecting the cure.
Application Information
-
Required Tools: Sealant gun, backing rod, masking tape (optional),
tooling agent (e.g., Sika® Tooling Agent N).
-
Trade-Specific Tips: Ensure proper joint design and dimensioning
according to relevant standards. Use a backing rod to control sealant depth
and prevent three-sided adhesion.
-
Common Issues and Solutions: For optimal adhesion, clean and
prime substrates as recommended. Avoid applying in wet conditions or on
frozen surfaces.
Storage and Shelf Life
-
Storage Requirements: Store in dry conditions, protected from
direct sunlight, at temperatures between +5°C and +25°C (41°F and 77°F).
-
Shelf Life Information: 12 months from the date of production in
undamaged, original, sealed packaging.
-
Temperature Considerations: Avoid storing outside the specified
temperature range to maintain product quality.
