Cementitious Waterproofing Membranes

Cementitious Waterproofing Membranes Cementitious membranes are rigid polymer-modified cement coatings. They waterproof concrete and masonry from the inside or outside. You apply them to basements, retaining walls, wet rooms, tanks, and pools. They are not flexible, so you tile, screed, or backfill over them. We stock four membranes across single-component...

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a cementitious waterproofing membrane?
A cementitious waterproofing membrane is a polymer-modified cement coating that provides a rigid waterproof barrier. Unlike liquid membranes, cementitious membranes are not flexible and must be covered with tiles, screed, or backfill. They suit wet areas, pools, and tanks.
Can I apply a cementitious membrane inside a basement?
Yes. Gripset C-1P and Sikalastic-1K both resist negative water pressure and suit the inside face of retaining walls and basement slabs. Gripset C-1P resists 1.5 bar negative pressure. Sikalastic-1K resists 2.5 bar negative pressure.
Which cementitious membranes are safe for drinking water tanks?
Gripset C-1P, RLA 2 Part Cementitious, and Sikalastic-1K all hold AS 4020 approval for contact with potable water. Use them for concrete rainwater tanks and reservoirs. All three suit immersion service.
Do cementitious membranes bridge cracks in the substrate?
Gripset C-1P and Sikalastic-1K both bridge cracks up to 0.75 mm. Cementitious membranes rely on their polymer content for crack bridging. For wider crack movement, consider a Class III liquid membrane with higher elongation.
What is the difference between single-component and two-part cementitious membranes?
Single-component products such as Gripset C-1P and Sikalastic-1K mix with water only. Two-part products such as Gripset 2P and RLA 2 Part need a liquid polymer additive. Two-part membranes tile in 24 hours. Single-component products need longer immersion cure.
