Frequently Asked Questions
What does a puddle flange do?
It stops water tracking down the outside of a pipe that passes through the slab. The flange is cast into the slab and gives the waterproofing membrane a firm point to terminate on.
What size puddle flange do I need?
Match the outlet to the floor waste pipe. Megaflex comes in 50mm, 80mm and 100mm outlets with outer diameters of 50.8mm, 75mm and 102mm. Those three sizes are the only ones stocked here.
Why does flange thickness matter?
It has to sit low enough for the membrane to lie flat. The 50mm flange is 3.5mm thick and the 80mm and 100mm versions are 4mm, which limits build-up at the waste.
Is the Megaflex puddle flange compliant for Australian wet areas?
Yes. It carries WaterMark certification, which verifies it meets the national plumbing and safety standards for installation in Australian wet areas. Select the size that matches your waste pipe.
What do I seal around a set flange?
Use a self-adhesive butyl detailing product such as Gripset BRW PF Square or Gripset BRW PF Tape. Those seal the junction around the flange. They are detailing strips, not flanges.
When is a puddle flange fitted?
It is cast into the slab with the waste pipe, then the waterproofing membrane terminates on it. That order closes the joint between pipe, slab and membrane and stops moisture reaching the subfloor.
