Mountain Grout Gel Foam is a hydrophilic polyurethane injection grout designed to stop active water leaks through cracks and joints in concrete. It reacts with water inside the leak path, expanding into a flexible foam or gel to seal areas that remain consistently wet.

Where it works best

Choose Gel Foam for water ingress in continuously damp concrete structures, including dams, tunnels, underground vaults and lift pits. It is particularly useful where the leaking crack already contains water: moisture triggers the grout's reaction and is important to the resulting hydrophilic seal.

How it works

Gel Foam can be injected as a single-component resin into wet cracks, or used with water in a two-component injection setup. Depending on the amount of water encountered, it forms a foam or gel that fills the leak path. The formulation is solvent-free and TDI-free.

Choosing the right Mountain Grout

Gel Foam is the moisture-dependent option for persistently wet areas. Where a crack or joint regularly dries out, consider a hydrophobic grade such as Mountain Grout Flexible or Mountain Grout Ultra instead.

Key considerations

  • The water-reactive formulation requires moisture to initiate its reaction.
  • Continued moisture exposure is important to the performance of the hydrophilic seal.
  • Injection method, water conditions and reaction behaviour should be matched to the job by an experienced installer.

When should Gel Foam be chosen instead of a hydrophobic Mountain Grout?
Choose Gel Foam where the crack or joint remains continuously wet. Its hydrophilic seal relies on ongoing moisture; for wet/dry cycling, use a suitable hydrophobic grout instead.

Hydrophilic polyurethane injection grout for active water leaks in concrete cracks and joints. Reacts directly with water and can be pumped as a single component into wet cracks or injected as a dual-component system with water. Expands up to 25 times its liquid volume. Typical viscosity is 650 cps, cured elongation 400% and tensile strength 170 psi.
Inject directly into wet cracks as a single-component grout, or inject alongside water as a dual-component system. At a 1:1 Gel Foam-to-water ratio at 25°C, expansion starts in approximately 30 seconds and reaches full rise in approximately 6 minutes. The product reacts with the water encountered in the crack or joint and expands to fill the leak path.
Hydrophilic chemistry requires water to react and ongoing moisture to maintain the physical seal. Use for leaks and joints where continuous moisture exposure is expected; it is not the hydrophobic choice for wet/dry cycling conditions. Reaction rate varies with temperature and the amount of water encountered.
  • Wet concrete cracks
  • Concrete joints with continuous moisture exposure
  • Water-bearing voids in concrete structures
