Mapei Planicrete SP is a multipurpose SBR latex admixture used to improve the bonding and performance of compatible cement-based mixes. For professional screed work, it is particularly useful in preparing a bonding slurry between sound concrete and a new bonded screed, helping the layers form a reliable connection.

More than a general-purpose primer

Planicrete SP is blended into specified cementitious slurry, mortar or render mixes rather than simply being brushed on as an interchangeable floor primer. It can also be used in compatible modified mortars and renders where improved adhesion and resistance to shock or vibration are needed. It is suitable for specified internal and external work.

Where it fits in a screed system

Use a Planicrete SP bonding slurry when called for by the selected Mapei screed specification, such as certain Mapecem or Topcem systems. If the job uses Topcem Pronto Slurry, that is a dedicated preblended bonding slurry rather than the same product in a different container.

Where the bonding slurry earns its place

Think of a new bonded screed over an existing concrete slab. Even if the screed material is well chosen, the job can fail if the interface has not been properly prepared. Planicrete SP is used as part of specified cementitious bonding slurries to help create that connection, with wider uses in compatible modified mortars and renders.

Its advantage is versatility for experienced crews mixing a defined system on site. That is also why it should not be sold as a simple paint-on universal primer: the ratio of latex, cement, aggregate and water, together with the wet-on-wet sequence, changes with the intended application. For a dedicated ready-proportioned Topcem Pronto bonding layer, compare Topcem Pronto Slurry.

Before installation

Follow the exact mixing ratios and application sequence for the chosen system, including placing the screed while the bond coat remains appropriately wet. Planicrete SP is an additive, not a standalone waterproof membrane or universal substrate sealer.

What is Planicrete SP?
It is an SBR latex additive for improving compatible cement mortars, screeds, renders and bonding slurries.

Can it be used neat as a primer?
No. MAPEI requires it to be combined with the specified cement or binder.

What application temperature range is used?
5°C to 40°C.

Can it be used in bonded screeds?
Yes, as part of the specified bonding slurry and screed system.

SBR latex additive for high-performance cement mortars, screeds, renders and bonding slurries. Improves adhesion, plasticity, water retention and workability of compatible cement mixes. After cure it improves mechanical strength, abrasion resistance, impermeability and freeze-thaw resistance. Suitable for bonded and floating screed systems and cementitious repair mixes. Application temperature range is 5°C to 40°C.
Prepare the mineral substrate so it is sound, clean and free from loose material and contamination. Pre-wet absorbent surfaces where the MAPEI system requires it and remove standing water. Dilute Planicrete SP with clean water to the ratio specified for the mortar, screed or render. Add the cement and aggregate and mix for about 2–3 minutes until uniform. For bonded screeds, apply the specified Planicrete and cement slurry and place the screed wet-on-wet before the slurry dries.
Do not use Planicrete SP neat as a primer or bonding slurry. Always combine it with the cement or binder specified for the application. Do not mix excessively and entrain unnecessary air. Adjust dilution where aggregates already contain significant moisture. Protect modified cement mixes from rapid drying in hot, dry or windy conditions.

  • Cement screeds and renders.
  • Compatible masonry repair substrates.
  • Bonding interfaces for MAPEI cementitious mortar systems.

Mapei Planicrete SP - Use Cases

Here are some common examples on where Mapei Planicrete SP used by our customers.

Masonry

Durable Wall Render Adhesion

Applying cement renders to brickwork or blockwork, whether internal or external, for improved durability and weather resistance.

Boosts render adhesion, water resistance, and impact performance, ensuring long-lasting finishes on vertical surfaces.

  • Render compressive strength ~10 MPa
  • Render flexural strength ~5 MPa
  • Apply 10mm render thickness
  • AS 3958 for renders

Masonry

Strong Wall Render Finish

Applying internal or external renders to brickwork, blockwork, or existing substrates needing improved durability.

It fortifies renders against cracking and spalling by boosting bond strength and accommodating movement across various wall types.

  • 10 MPa compressive strength (28 days)
  • 10mm recommended render thickness
  • up to 13mm thick per AS 3958
  • bonds to brickwork

Flooring

Flexible Floor Screed Installation

When installing new sand/cement floor screeds over concrete or heated slabs requiring enhanced durability and movement.

Greatly improves screed bond strength, water resistance, and accommodates thermal movement, reducing cracking and delamination issues.

  • Underfloor heating compatible
  • Screed compressive strength ~15 MPa
  • Screed flexural strength ~5 MPa
  • Min 15mm screed thickness

Waterproofing

Wet Area Screed Protection

Creating robust, water-resistant screeds for wet areas like bathrooms, over waterproofing membranes.
