For internal sealing of concrete tanks, waterproofing walls and floors, and toughening timber surfaces, Megapoxy LVS is a two-component, clear liquid epoxy formulated to penetrate porous substrates. With a low mixed viscosity of 90cps, it sinks into the pores of concrete, timber, bricks, mortar, and natural stone to seal, harden, and waterproof from within.

How it works

Megapoxy LVS functions by capillary action, penetrating deep into the substrate before curing. Once cured, it creates a high-strength barrier with a compressive strength of 80Mpa and a concrete bond strength exceeding 3Mpa, making the treated surface mechanically stronger than the concrete itself. It seals internal masonry walls, consolidates soft or porous brickwork, and hardens timber surfaces against wear. It also serves as the compatible primer coat for Megapoxy floor coatings, establishing a secure structural bond to the dry substrate.

Numbers that matter

  • 90cps mixed viscosity: A thin liquid that easily penetrates fine pores and capillaries in dense substrates at 25°C.
  • 80Mpa compressive strength (ASTM D695): Delivers a cured matrix that reinforces weak concrete and masonry under heavy mechanical loads.
  • 30-minute work time (at 25°C): The working window to mix, apply, and back-roll the sealer before the chemical cure begins to thicken the liquid.
  • 24-hour full cure (at 25°C): Reaches structural service strength within 24 hours at standard temperature, dropping to 12 hours at 35°C, and extending to 48 hours at 15°C.
  • 4-hour thin film cure (at 25°C): Cures quickly when applied as a thin sealer coat, reducing the window before subsequent coatings can be considered.

Where to use it

  • Concrete tanks: Internal sealing to prevent water egress or chemical penetration.
  • Walls and floors: Deep-penetrating waterproofing barrier for porous masonry structures.
  • Bricks and mortar: Internal sealing to consolidate old, crumbly, or dusting brick joints.
  • Concrete floors: Hardening and dust-proofing porous concrete floors, or priming prior to applying Megapoxy floor coatings.
  • Structural concrete: Protection against environmental ingress and carbonation.
  • Timber surfaces: Toughening and consolidating soft, dry, or worn timber structures.

Limitations

  • Must be applied to thoroughly dry substrates only; moisture will compromise adhesion.
  • Do not apply at temperatures below 10°C.
  • Must be applied as thinly as possible and not allowed to pool. If pooling occurs, excess material must be wiped up immediately to leave a thin surface film.
  • Bonding to existing painted or coated surfaces will result in inferior bond strength compared to a freshly prepared substrate. All previous coatings must be removed.
  • Wire brushing of metal surfaces is not satisfactory and provides minimal adhesion only.
  • Inaccuracies in the 2:1 mixing ratio or poor hand mixing will lower the physical properties of the system, prevent a satisfactory cure, and cause discolouration with age.

Surface preparation

Concrete: Must be free from grease and oil. Remove surface laitance by scabbling, grit blasting, or grinding. If mechanical preparation is impossible, acid etch using a 1:1 mix of hydrochloric acid and water at a rate of 0.5 litres per square metre. Allow to react for 10 minutes, wash thoroughly, scrub with a stiff broom, and allow to dry for a minimum of 24 hours.

Metal surfaces: Grit blast to AS CK 9.4 - 1964 Class 3 finish, or mechanically abrade to a clean, bright metal surface, then flood with an industrial grade degreaser.

Timber: Remove all damaged, loose, or rotted timber back to a clean, dust-free surface.

Coated surfaces: Remove paint from concrete using flame-cleaning or a scutching tool, followed by diamond grinding or scabbling. Remove paint and galvanizing from metal using a high-quality paint stripper followed by grit blasting or grinding.

Application guide

Thoroughly mix Part A and Part B at a ratio of 2 Parts A to 1 Part B by volume. Apply using a brush or roller.

  • Priming: Apply a minimum of 1 coat prior to overcoating with Megapoxy floor coating products.
  • Coating, sealing, or hardening: Apply a minimum of 2 coats.
  • Traffic window: Allow the system to cure for 18 to 24 hours before opening the treated area to traffic.
  • Cleanup: Clean mixing implements and application tools immediately after use with Megapoxy Thinners.

Applying Megapoxy LVS: Enhanced Protocols & Best Practices

  1. Step 1: Preparation & Safety

    This is a Class 3 Flammable Liquid. Extinguish all ignition sources (pilot lights, heaters, sparks) and ensure high ventilation. Part B is Class 8 Corrosive; full PPE is mandatory.

    Concrete Preparation

    Substrate must be clean, thoroughly dry, and free of contaminants. Remove all laitance via mechanical grinding or grit blasting.

    Timber Preparation

    Sand to clean, sound wood. Remove all dust. Must be completely dry.

    Pro Tip: Do not apply over old coatings. They must be completely removed for a structural bond.
  2. Step 2: Mixing (2:1 Ratio)

    Measure accurately and mix thoroughly in a well-ventilated area, away from ignition sources.

    Mixing

    Add 1 part Part B to 2 parts Part A by volume. Mix thoroughly by hand or with a low-speed mixer until the liquid is uniform and streak-free.

    Timing: Work time is 30 minutes at 25°C. This time will be shorter in hot weather. Only mix what you can use in this time.
  3. Step 3: Application

    Apply the mixed LVS to the prepared substrate using a brush or roller.

    Priming

    Apply a minimum of 1 coat. Apply thinly and do not allow to pool. Wipe up any excess.

    Sealing / Waterproofing

    Apply a minimum of 2 coats, allowing the first coat to become tack-free (approx. 4 hours at 25°C) before applying the next.

    Pro Tip: Clean all tools immediately with Megapoxy Thinners before the product cures.

Product limitations

  • Not for: Application to damp or wet substrates; the product requires thoroughly dry conditions for proper cure and adhesion.
  • Not for: Application over existing coatings; all previous surface treatments must be fully removed to ensure optimal bond strength.
  • Minimum application temperature: 10°C; applying below this temperature will negatively impact cure time and final performance.

Personal protective equipment

Wear safety shoes, gloves (nitrile rubber recommended for intermittent contact), safety glasses, and an organic vapour/particulate respirator (meeting AS/NZS 1715 and AS/NZS 1716) if an inhalation risk exists. Ensure PPE is suitable for the nature of the work and identified hazards.

Ventilation

Ensure ventilation is adequate to maintain air concentrations below exposure standards. Use only in well-ventilated areas, with local exhaust ventilation, or while wearing an appropriate respirator. Vapour is heavier than air; prevent its concentration in hollows or sumps. Do not enter confined spaces where vapour may have collected.

First aid

  • Inhalation: Remove victim from exposure to fresh air, avoiding becoming a casualty. Loosen clothing. Keep warm and at rest until fully recovered. Seek medical advice if effects persist.
  • Skin Contact: If skin contact occurs, immediately remove contaminated clothing and flush skin with plenty of soap and water for at least 15 minutes. For gross contamination, immediately drench. Seek medical assistance if swelling, redness, blistering, or irritation occurs. Do not break blisters.
  • Eye Contact: If in eyes, hold eyelids apart and flush continuously with running water for at least 15 minutes. Remove contact lenses if present and easy to do. Continue flushing until advised by a Poisons Information Centre or Doctor, or for at least 15 minutes, then transport to medical care. Seek medical assistance immediately.
  • Ingestion: Rinse mouth with water. Do NOT induce vomiting. Give a glass of water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious patient. If vomiting occurs, give further water. Seek immediate medical advice from a Poisons Information Centre or Doctor.

Storage and disposal

Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place, out of direct sunlight, away from foodstuffs, incompatible materials, and sources of heat/ignition. Keep containers upright and closed when not in use. Store locked up. Dispose of contents and container in accordance with local, regional, national, and international regulations.

Proper substrate preparation is critical for Megapoxy LVS to achieve its documented performance, ensuring optimal penetration, adhesion, and durability.

Concrete

Surface prep: Ensure concrete is free from grease and oil, using an industrial heavy-duty degreaser if necessary. Remove surface laitance by mechanical abrasion such as scabbling, grit blasting, or grinding. If mechanical methods are not possible, acid etching can be performed using equal parts concentrated hydrochloric acid and water at 0.5 litres per square meter, reacting for 10 minutes, then thoroughly washing and scrubbing to remove loose sand. Concrete must be thoroughly dry for 24 hours prior to application to ensure maximum adhesion.

Primer: Not required for this product's role as a penetrating sealer.

Metal surfaces

Surface prep: Grit blast to AS CK 9.4 - 1964 Class 3 finish. If grit blasting is not possible, mechanically abrade the surface to a clean, bright metal finish. Degrease the abraded surface with an industrial-grade degreaser. Wire brushing is generally insufficient for optimal adhesion.

Primer: Not required for this product's role as a penetrating sealer.

Timber

Surface prep: Remove any damaged, loose, or rotted timber to expose a clean, dust-free surface.

Coated surfaces

Surface prep: All existing coatings must be removed prior to applying Megapoxy LVS. Bonding to coated surfaces will result in significantly inferior bond strengths compared to application directly to a prepared, bare substrate. For painted concrete, use flame-cleaning or scutching, then diamond grinding or scabbling. For painted metal, use good quality paint stripper followed by grit blasting or grinding to bright metal.

Primer: Not applicable, as this product is itself a primer/sealer and requires bare substrates.
