For laying parquet flooring over subfloors where a permanent balance of high bond strength and acoustic dampening is required, X’traseal MS-608 MS Polymer Adhesive provides a flexible, moisture-resistant bond. Formulated on hybrid silyl modified polyether technology, this odourless adhesive accommodates the natural movement of timber while protecting the installation from subfloor moisture.

How it works

X’traseal MS-608 cures via atmospheric humidity to form a tough, elastic seal with a Shore A hardness of 40. The silyl modified polymer chemistry allows the adhesive to be applied directly to damp surfaces without bubbling or losing adhesion, making it highly reliable in variable site conditions. Because it is free from solvents, isocyanates, acids, and silicone oils, it does not pose the shrinkage or staining risks associated with traditional polyurethane or solvent-based adhesives. It also provides built-in sound dampening properties to reduce footfall noise through the floor assembly.

Numbers that matter

  • 800% elongation at break: High elasticity (tested to ASTM D412) that allows the cured adhesive to absorb significant timber expansion and contraction without joint failure.
  • 0.90 mPa lap shear strength: High wood-to-wood bond strength (tested to ASTM C961) to keep solid and engineered timber planks flat and securely locked to the subfloor.
  • 30-minute skin time: Provides a reliable 20 to 30-minute open working window under standard conditions to trowel adhesive and set boards before skinning begins.
  • -40°C to 100°C service temperature: A wide thermal operating range that ensures the bond line remains stable under direct solar heating or in unconditioned spaces.

Where to use it

Suitable for bonding many types of parquet, solid wood, and engineered timber flooring to almost any common subfloor in both internal and external applications. Specific coverage rates and trowel configurations include:

  • Finger Block Parquet: Use a 3 mm x 3 mm x 3 mm square notch trowel for coverage up to 2.0 m²/L.
  • ≤13 mm Solid or Engineered Wood: Use a 4 mm x 3 mm V-notch trowel (up to 1.4 m²/L) or a 5 mm x 4 mm V-notch trowel (up to 1.2 m²/L).
  • 9–13 mm Solid Wood, >13 mm Engineered Wood, or <19 mm Parquet: Use a 6 mm x 6 mm x 3 mm square notch trowel for coverage up to 1.0 m²/L.
  • >13 mm Solid Wood and 4’ x 4’ Plywood: Use a 6 mm x 6 mm x 6 mm square notch trowel for coverage up to 0.9 m²/L.

Limitations

  • Do not use on PE, PP, PTFE, bituminous substrates, or plastics containing softeners.
  • Not suitable for structural glazing or underwater applications.
  • Do not use in totally confined spaces; atmospheric humidity is required for the adhesive to cure.
  • Not suitable for heavy trafficable joints, exposure to aggressive solvents/chemicals, or direct food contact.
  • While paintable with water-based systems, alkyd resin paints may experience extended drying times. Cracking may occur if the paint film cannot match the high movement capability of the adhesive.
  • White variants may show surface yellowing if exposed to strong UV light for prolonged periods.

Installation and prep

Substrates must be clean, dry, and completely free from dirt, oil, grease, detergents, and loose material. Only trowel out as much adhesive as can be worked within 20 to 30 minutes. Slide the timber planks into the wet adhesive bed and tap firmly into place to secure a full bond. Uncured excess adhesive can be cleaned up using mineral spirits or cleaning solvents; cured adhesive must be removed mechanically.

Frequently asked questions

Can X'traseal MS-608 be used for outdoor parquet installations?

Yes, X'traseal MS-608 is suitable for both indoor and outdoor bonding and sealing of parquet flooring. It offers excellent UV and weather resistance, ensuring durability in exposed conditions.

Does this adhesive accommodate timber movement?

X'traseal MS-608 remains permanently flexible, with an elongation at break of approximately 800%. This high flexibility allows it to handle the natural expansion and contraction of timber flooring without delamination or cracking.

Is X'traseal MS-608 suitable for application on damp subfloors?

Yes, this adhesive can be applied on damp surfaces, providing a reliable bond. This feature can help maintain project timelines when minor moisture is present, reducing delays.

Can X'traseal MS-608 be used with all types of plastic?

No, X'traseal MS-608 is not suitable for bonding to PE, PP, PTFE, or plastics containing softeners. Always perform preliminary compatibility tests for any new substrate or coating type.

How to Apply X’traseal MS-608 Flooring Adhesive

  1. Step 1: Substrate Preparation

Ensure the subfloor is clean, solid, and free from dust, grease, oil, curing agents, or loose materials. Slight dampness is acceptable; do not apply over standing water.

Pro Tip: Use a moisture test if unsure — MS-608 can tolerate residual moisture but not pooling.
  2. Step 2: Adhesive Application

Apply MS-608 directly from sausage or drum using a notched trowel. Recommended notch: 4 x 4 mm for small boards; 6 x 6 mm for engineered or large panels.

Pro Tip: Spread only as much as can be covered within 30 minutes to maintain open time and bond integrity.
  3. Step 3: Flooring Placement

Place flooring into wet adhesive and press down firmly. Tap boards into position using a rubber mallet and ensure full contact with adhesive bed.

Pro Tip: Use spacers and alignment guides to maintain layout accuracy — repositioning is possible within open time.
  4. Step 4: Curing & Traffic

Allow adhesive to cure undisturbed. Light foot traffic is acceptable after 24 hours under normal conditions. Full strength develops in 5–7 days.

Pro Tip: Delay sanding or finishing until full cure is achieved to avoid movement.
  5. Step 5: Cleanup

Remove excess adhesive immediately with mineral spirits or an adhesive wipe. Once cured, MS-608 must be trimmed or scraped off mechanically.

Pro Tip: Mask edges if working with finished flooring to simplify cleanup.

Product limitations

  • Not for: PE, PP, PTFE, plastics containing softeners, or bituminous substrates due to potential adhesion failure.
  • Not for: Structural glazing applications; this product is formulated for flooring.
  • Not for: Totally confined spaces without atmospheric humidity, as moisture is needed for proper curing.
  • Not for: Underwater applications or areas with heavy trafficable surface/joints where specific performance is needed.
  • Not for: Exposure to aggressive solvents or chemicals, which can compromise bond integrity.
  • Not for: Food contact applications.

Safety and handling

Read and understand the Material Safety Data Sheet (SDS) of this product before handling or using. No specific SDS for X'traseal MS-608 was provided in the supplied documents for this product, so general safety practices should be followed.

Storage and disposal

Store in unopened packaging in a cool, dry place between +5°C and +30°C. Shelf life is 12 months under these conditions. Excess uncured adhesive can be cleaned with mineral spirits or cleaning solvent. Once cured, removal is mechanical only.

Substrate guide

Proper substrate preparation is critical for the bond strength and long-term performance of any flooring installation.

All subfloors for parquetry

Surface prep: Substrates must be clean, dry, and free from grease. Remove all dirt, oil, detergents, and loose material. For damp surfaces, the adhesive is suitable, but general cleanliness is still required.

Primer: Not required for typical applications. However, due to the variety of coatings and specific subfloor conditions, preliminary compatibility tests are recommended to confirm adhesion and prevent issues.
