30mm HexCell Wall Drainage Cell - Standard Duty 550

30mm HexCell Drainage Cell handles sub-surface water in retaining walls, green roofs, balconies and civil works. 70t/m² compressive strength means it takes the load, and 14,400 L/h/m² flow rate at 1% fall keeps water moving without clogging. Made from recycled polypropylene, lightweight 1.1m x 1.

A 30mm studded drainage cell that goes behind retaining walls, planter boxes, green roofs, and below-grade walls. The studs form a void that carries water down to the drain instead of letting it sit against the structure, and the sheet doubles as a protection layer for the waterproofing behind it.

Standard duty 550 grade suits landscape loads. Roll it out dimple-side to the wall, overlap the sheets, and cover with geotextile before backfill.

Frequently asked questions

How is this drainage cell installed beneath a green roof?

Install the drainage cell directly over the waterproofing membrane. Overlay with a filter fabric, then add soil or growing media. Ensure drainage outlets are correctly configured.

What load can this drainage cell handle?

This drainage cell handles loads up to 70 tonnes per square metre (70 t/m²). This compressive strength supports foot traffic, planter boxes, and other structural loads on podiums or landscaped decks.

Is this product compatible with waterproofing membranes?

Yes, the HexCell is compatible with most waterproofing systems. A separation layer, such as a geotextile, is recommended to protect the membrane from potential damage during installation and service.

Can this drainage cell be used under heavy vehicle traffic?

No, this drainage cell is not rated for high vehicular traffic without specific additional structural support. Its design is for pedestrian and landscaped loads.

How should off-cuts be disposed of?

Off-cuts are recyclable. Dispose of them according to local plastic recycling regulations. Avoid landfill or burning.

Forms a drainage void against retaining walls and below-grade structures. Protects the waterproofing membrane during backfill. Suits green roofs, planter boxes, balconies, and civil works.
Fix dimple-side against the wall over the membrane, overlap adjacent sheets, cap the top of the void with geotextile flap or strip to stop fines washing in, then backfill.
Standard duty grade: not for heavy trafficable loads without the heavy-duty variant. Geotextile separation is required or the void silts up.

Substrate guide

Proper substrate preparation is critical for the long-term performance and stability of the drainage cell system. Ensure surfaces are stable, clean, and correctly prepared.

Concrete slabs

Surface prep: Ensure the concrete slab is level and free from debris, sharp protrusions, or loose material that could impede installation or damage underlying layers.

Primer: Not required. The drainage cell sits as a layer above the concrete.

Bituminous waterproofing membranes

Surface prep: Verify the membrane is fully cured, clean, and undamaged. A protective geotextile layer should be placed directly over the membrane before the drainage cell.

Primer: Not required for the drainage cell directly. A separation layer is essential.

Compacted sand beds

Surface prep: Ensure the sand bed is uniformly compacted and graded to the specified fall. Remove any large aggregates or foreign objects.

Primer: Not required. The drainage cell can be placed directly on the prepared sand bed in landscaping applications.
