Toluene is a strong solvent for removing spray contact adhesive, polyurethane sealants, and other stubborn residues from tools and hard surfaces. It works fast where gentler cleaners give up.
It is also hazardous: highly flammable and harmful if inhaled. Outdoors or with serious ventilation, no ignition sources, gloves, and eye protection are not optional.
What is toluene used for?
Removing stubborn uncured adhesive and sealant residue and degreasing compatible hard surfaces and tools.
Can it be used on plastics or painted surfaces?
Only after a compatibility test. Toluene can damage sensitive plastics and coatings.
Can it be used as a thinner?
Only where the product manufacturer specifically permits toluene.
Is toluene flammable?
Yes. Follow the current SDS and keep it away from ignition sources.
- Compatible metal tools and equipment.
- Glass and other hard solvent-resistant surfaces after testing.
- Prepared surfaces carrying uncured compatible adhesive or sealant residue.
