For sealing and bonding jobs on porous surfaces or metals, Sika Primer-3 N Epoxy Primer is the single-component, solvent-based primer required to prepare the substrate before applying Sikaflex, SikaHyflex, SikaBond, or Sikasil adhesives and sealants.
The primer functions as an adhesion promoter on porous substrates like concrete and on non-porous metals. This solvent-based epoxy resin compound is water-repellent and penetrates porous surfaces to establish a secure bonding path for the joint sealant. It is applied in a single pass with a clean brush or roller, drying quickly to minimise preparation downtime before sealing begins.
Substrates must be clean, dry, sound, and homogeneous. All oil, grease, dust, loose or friable particles, and cement laitance must be removed before application. Apply Sika Primer-3 N Epoxy Primer only once with a clean brush or roller. Tightly reseal the container immediately after each use. Clean all tools and application equipment immediately after use; once cured, the residual epoxy compound can only be removed mechanically.
What is Sika Primer-3 N used for?
It promotes adhesion of compatible Sika sealants and adhesives to porous substrates and metals.
How long should it flash off?
At least 30 minutes and no longer than 8 hours before the compatible product is applied.
What coverage should I allow?
About 5m² per litre on porous substrates and 8m² per litre on non-porous substrates.
Does primer replace surface preparation?
No. The substrate must still be clean, dry, sound and correctly prepared.
