For wet-to-dry concrete bonding, structural repairs, and underwater or splashzone applications, Megapoxy HT is a hydrophilic epoxy gel adhesive that forms permanent bonds on concrete, metal, and steel surfaces. Its formulation is solvent-free, contains no volatile organic compounds (Nil V.O.C.), and resists hydrogen sulphide gas commonly present in sewage treatment plants and pipes.

How it works

Megapoxy HT is a 100% solids, resin-based hydrophilic gel. This chemistry allows it to displace moisture and cure reliably in wet conditions, splash zones, or fully submerged environments. When mixed, it forms a high-strength gel that can be applied by brush, roller, or airless spray. It can be used as a high-strength binder with fine aggregates to produce epoxy mortars and concrete repairs, or applied directly to secure horizontal steel anchoring and wet-to-dry concrete interfaces. For vertical and overhead concrete rendering, its gel consistency provides the necessary sag resistance to hold in place without running.

Limitations

  • Do not apply if the temperature is below the minimum application limit of 10°C.
  • Avoid bonding directly to coated surfaces; existing paint, galvanising, or coatings must be removed first to prevent inferior bond strengths.
  • Do not rely on wire brushing for metal preparation; wire brushing provides minimal adhesion only. Metals must be grit blasted or mechanically abraded to a bright finish.
  • Part A and Part B must be thoroughly mixed at the precise 3:1 by volume ratio. Inaccurate mixing or poor blending will lower physical properties, prevent a complete cure, and cause discolouration over time.

Substrate preparation and application

Concrete: Ensure the surface is free from grease, oil, and laitance. Mechanical abrasion via scabbling, grit blasting, or grinding is preferred. If acid etching is required, apply a 1:1 hydrochloric acid and water mix at 0.5 litres per square metre, allow to react for 10 minutes, scrub with a stiff broom, wash thoroughly, and let dry for 24 hours. For maximum adhesion, the concrete should be surface dry before application.

Metal: Grit blast to AS CK 9.4 - 1964 Class 3 finish, or mechanically abrade to bright metal. Degrease by flooding the prepared surface with an industrial grade degreaser. For steel anchoring, drill a hole approximately 1.5 times the steel diameter, blow out dust using oil-free, dry compressed air, set the steel, and pour the mixed adhesive from one side to prevent air entrapment.

Coated surfaces: For concrete, remove paint via flame-cleaning or scutching, followed by diamond grinding or scabbling. For metals, remove paint and galvanising with a paint stripper, then grit blast or grind to a bright metal finish.

Clean-up: Clean all mixing tools and application equipment immediately after use with Megapoxy Thinners.

Applying Megapoxy HT: Protocols & Best Practices

General Application Steps:
  1. Preparation: Ensure the substrate is prepared to the required standard as per the Adhesion & Preparation Guide.
  2. Mixing: Accurately measure 3 parts of Part A to 1 part of Part B by volume. Mix thoroughly with a slow-speed drill and paddle mixer until a completely uniform, streak-free grey colour is achieved. Inaccurate mixing will result in poor performance.
  3. Application: Apply the mixed gel using a brush, roller, or trowel. When used as a bonding adhesive for new concrete, apply at 1 to 1.5 litres per square metre and place the new concrete within 15 minutes.
  4. Curing: Protect the applied product from contaminants while curing. Allow for the minimum cure time based on the ambient temperature (e.g., 24 hours at 25°C) before subjecting the area to service or load.

Product limitations

  • Not for: Vertical steel anchoring. Megapoxy H is recommended for vertical steel grouting.

Personal protective equipment

Wear safety shoes, gloves (nitrile rubber recommended), safety glasses, and a suitable respirator. Always wash hands before eating, drinking, or smoking. Contaminated clothing must be washed before reuse.

Ventilation

Natural ventilation should be adequate under normal use conditions to prevent inhalation of vapours or mists.

First aid

  • Inhalation: Remove victim from exposure and to fresh air. Keep at rest and warm. Seek medical advice if effects persist.
  • Skin Contact: Immediately remove contaminated clothing and flush skin and hair with copious water and soap. For skin burns, cover with a dry dressing. Seek medical assistance if irritation, blistering, or swelling occurs.
  • Eye Contact: Immediately irrigate eyes with copious water for 15 minutes, holding eyelids open. Seek urgent medical assistance and transport to a hospital.

Storage and disposal

Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight, foodstuffs, incompatible materials, and ignition sources. Keep containers upright and closed. Store locked up. Megapoxy HT Part A is a Class 9 Dangerous Good, and Part B is a Class 8 Corrosive, both Schedule 5 Poisons. Dispose of material and containers according to local, regional, and national regulations; recycling is preferred if possible.

Substrate guide

Proper surface preparation is essential for Megapoxy HT to achieve its documented bond strengths and ensure long-term performance.

Concrete

Surface prep: Concrete must be free from grease and oil. Clean with an industrial heavy-duty degreaser if required. Remove surface laitance by mechanical abrasion such as scabbling, grit blasting, or grinding. If mechanical methods are not feasible, acid etching can be performed: mix concentrated hydrochloric acid with an equal volume of water, spread at 0.5 litres per square metre, allow to react for 10 minutes, then wash thoroughly and scrub to remove loose sand. Allow the concrete to dry for 24 hours. For maximum adhesion, the concrete surface must be dry.

Primer: Not required.

Metal surfaces

Surface prep: Metals should be grit blasted to AS CK 9.4 - 1964 Class 3 finish. If grit blasting is not possible, mechanically abrade the surface to a clean, bright metal finish. Degrease the surface by flooding with an industrial-grade degreaser after abrasion. Wire brushing is not sufficient and will provide minimal adhesion.

Primer: Not required.

Coated surfaces

Surface prep: All existing coatings must be fully removed prior to bonding, as bonding to coated surfaces will result in inferior bond strengths compared to direct application to a prepared substrate. For painted concrete, flame-clean or mechanically treat with a scutching tool to remove all paint traces, then complete preparation by diamond grinding or scabbling. For painted or galvanised metals, use a good quality paint stripper followed by grit blasting or grinding to a bright metal finish.
