For backfilling and encapsulating inductive detector loops, traffic loops, and aircraft landing lights on asphaltic and concrete roadways, Megapoxy CT5 provides a rapid-setting, pourable seal. This cold-pour liquid compound sets under adverse cold and damp conditions, allowing civil contractors and traffic technicians to minimise road and lane closures.
Long-term encapsulation for high-traffic environments
Megapoxy CT5 cures to a non-brittle, flexible state with high dielectric strength, protecting sensitive wiring in roadway lighting, automatic gate loops, hearing loops, and weigh-in-motion sensors. The cured compound absorbs the physical stress of constant vehicle traffic without cracking. For high-build and bulk applications, the flow of the mixed liquid can be modified by gradually blending in fine aggregate (such as blue stone) and dry epoxy-quality sand after the initial chemical mix is complete.
Numbers that matter
-
1:1 mix ratio: Equal volumes of Part A and Part B simplify on-site preparation using the pre-measured 20-litre kit.
-
8-minute work time (at 25°C): A fast, highly reactive window requiring immediate pouring after mixing to ensure self-levelling and complete penetration around wires.
-
6-hour cure time (at 25°C): Rapidly sets to allow traffic return, curing in 3 hours at 35°C and extending to 12 hours at 15°C.
-
40% elongation at break: Retains elasticity under heavy roadway deflection to prevent moisture ingress.
-
22 MPa compressive strength: Withstands heavy vehicle wheel loads on public highways and airport runways.
-
60–70 Shore D hardness (ASTM D2240-00): Resists debris puncture and mechanical wear under service conditions.
Limitations
- Do not apply at temperatures below 10°C.
- Strict adherence to the 1:1 volume ratio is required; incorrect mixing ratios or poor mixing will reduce final physical properties and may cause incomplete curing or surface discolouration.
- Resin and sand volumes do not combine linearly; sand contains approximately 40% air voids which are filled by the mixed resin.
How to apply
Measure 1 part by volume of Part A and 1 part by volume of Part B into a clean plastic bucket. Stir thoroughly for at least 3 minutes, ensuring the sides and bottom of the vessel are scraped clean of unmixed material. A mechanical mixer may be used, keeping splashing to a minimum to prevent air entrapment, until the mixture is uniform, black, and free of streaks. If sand or fine aggregate is required to reduce flow for sloped or high-build applications, mix Part A and Part B thoroughly first, then add the dry sand gradually while continuing to mix until homogenous.
Clean-up and tools
Clean mixing implements and working tools immediately after use with Megapoxy Thinners. Wear disposable rubber gloves during handling and mixing to maintain proper industrial hygiene.
