Megapoxy 84

For high-wear industrial environments where high alumina ceramic tile linings must be fixed to steel or concrete under elevated temperatures, Megapoxy 84 provides the high-strength, heat-tolerant bond required to prevent lining failure. It is also formulated for the extreme mechanical demands of locking the inner and outer eccentric bushings in Symons Cone Crushers and other heavy crushing machinery.

High-temperature thermal and mechanical performance

Megapoxy 84 is a two-component epoxy paste adhesive that cures to a pale blue finish. It maintains its structural bond up to a maximum continuous operating temperature of 120°C. With a compressive strength of 120 MPa, it withstands the constant heavy impact and high load paths found in industrial crushing machinery and bulk material handling chutes. The thixotropic gel consistency of Part A prevents slumping during application, ensuring a full, even bed thickness when spreading over vertical or overhead surfaces before tiles are pressed into place.

Numbers that matter

• 120 MPa compressive strength: High compressive capacity to withstand heavy crushing loads and continuous impact.
• 120°C maximum operating temperature: Retains structural adhesion under high-heat service conditions.
• 1.25 litres per m² coverage rate: Standard application rate for spreading on steel or concrete substrates with a notched trowel.
• 30-minute work time (at 25°C): Practical open window to mix, apply, and align heavy ceramic tiles before the paste begins to set.
• 72-hour full service cure: The required curing period before the tiled installation can be exposed to full mechanical loads and continuous temperatures up to 120°C.

Limitations

• Do not expose the application to elevated temperatures during the initial 48-hour cure period. The product is slightly brittle in the first 48 hours and requires this window to develop its full toughness.
• Do not apply Megapoxy 84 if the substrate or ambient temperature is below the 10°C minimum application limit.

Surface preparation

To ensure a permanent, high-strength bond, substrates must be prepared to the following standards before mixing:

• Steel: Must be cleaned to a "white metal" finish by grinding or grit blasting.
• Concrete: Must be scabbled back or grit blasted to expose firmly held aggregate.
• Tiles: High alumina ceramic tile surfaces must be clean and free of grease and contaminants.

Mixing and application

Megapoxy 84 is supplied in pre-measured 2.5-litre kits (4 parts Part A to 1 part Part B). To prevent measuring errors, the entire kit should be mixed at one time. Slowly pour the liquid Part B into the thixotropic Part A container to prevent splashing. Mix thoroughly for a minimum of 3 minutes using a putty knife or spatula, scraping both the sides and the bottom of the container to ensure a uniform pale blue appearance.

Apply the mixed adhesive to the prepared steel or concrete at approximately 1.25 litres per m² using a notched trowel. Press the high alumina ceramic tiles firmly into the wet adhesive bed to achieve complete, even contact across the tile surface. Uncured adhesive can be cleaned from tools and surfaces using Megapoxy Thinners and warm soapy water.
