Mapei Eco Prim T Plus is a versatile acrylic floor primer that prepares both absorbent and suitable non-absorbent substrates for compatible levelling and smoothing compounds. It is particularly useful on renovation jobs where the existing floor changes from porous concrete or screed to sound ceramic tiles, because the right primer helps the next layer bond consistently instead of treating every surface as though it absorbs moisture in the same way.

On absorbent substrates, Eco Prim T Plus helps regulate suction so levelling compounds can flow and cure more consistently. On approved non-absorbent surfaces, it acts as an adhesion-promoting layer before the new floor build-up. Its low-odour, water-based formulation is practical for indoor floor preparation in homes and commercial spaces.

Where Eco Prim T Plus fits

  • Before self-levelling compounds: Prepare sound, clean concrete, cementitious screeds and other approved absorbent substrates.
  • Renovating over existing tiles: Prime suitable firmly bonded ceramic or stone finishes before an approved smoothing or levelling system.
  • Mixed-substrate floor preparation: Help create a consistent primed base where the approved flooring system encounters different levels of absorbency.

Choosing the right Mapei primer

Choose Eco Prim T Plus when the job calls for a general-purpose primer beneath a compatible floor leveller across absorbent or approved non-absorbent surfaces. Primer G is the more specifically targeted option for gypsum and anhydrite preparation, while Eco Prim Grip creates a textured bonding key for particular renders and smoothing applications. They are not automatically interchangeable.

Before applying

The substrate must be sound, clean and suitable for the selected levelling or adhesive system. Dilution, drying and overcoating intervals vary by substrate and subsequent product. Eco Prim T Plus is not a moisture barrier or a remedy for rising damp; choose a dedicated moisture-control system where required.

Can Eco Prim T Plus be used on both absorbent and non-absorbent floors?
Yes. It is a universal primer for both substrate types.

How is it diluted?
It is normally diluted 1:2 with water on absorbent cementitious or anhydrite substrates and used neat on non-absorbent surfaces.

How long does it take to dry?
Approximately 2–5 hours in the current Australian TDS, depending on conditions.

Can it be used over rising damp?
No. Rising damp is excluded.

Universal acrylic primer for absorbent and non-absorbent internal flooring substrates before levelling and smoothing compounds. Can also prime particularly absorbent or slightly dusty surfaces before compatible dispersion, cementitious and silylated polymer adhesives. Typical consumption is 0.10–0.20kg/m². On absorbent cementitious or anhydrite substrates it is normally diluted 1:2 with water; on non-absorbent surfaces it is used neat. Current Australian TDS drying time is approximately 2–5 hours depending on conditions.
Prepare substrates so they are uniformly dry, sound and free from dust, paint, wax, oil, rust and loose material. Apply with a brush or roller. On cementitious or anhydrite absorbent surfaces, normally dilute 1 part primer with 2 parts water. Use undiluted on ceramic tile, natural stone, moisture-stable timber and water-resistant adhesive residues. Allow approximately 2–5 hours to dry, depending on environment and absorption, and apply the subsequent product within 24 hours.
Use on internal flooring only. Do not apply where rising damp is present. Use only on moisture-stable timber. Do not use on magnesium substrates; use the MAPEI primer specified for that substrate. Do not wait more than 24 hours before covering the dried primer.
  • Concrete and cementitious screeds.
  • Anhydrite and gypsum-based substrates.
  • Existing ceramic tile and natural stone.
  • Moisture-stable timber and wood-based substrates.
  • Water-resistant old adhesive residues.
  • Compatible epoxy or polyurethane moisture-barrier surfaces.

Mapei Eco Prim T Plus Primer - Use Cases

Here are some common examples on where Mapei Eco Prim T Plus Primer used by our customers.

Waterproofing

Bond over MVB without sand

Preparing a non-sanded epoxy or polyurethane moisture barrier for subsequent cementitious smoothing compounds.

Enables secure bonding of smoothing compounds less than 10mm thick directly onto non-sanded epoxy/PU moisture barriers, streamlining floor preparation.

  • Bonds over Primer MF, Mapeproof 1K
  • Smoothing compounds < 10 mm
  • Apply undiluted on MVB
  • Waiting time 2-4 hours MVB

Flooring

Interior Levelling Compound Primer

Preparing diverse interior subfloors, both absorbent and non-absorbent, for self-levelling compounds.

Ensures robust, long-lasting adhesion for levelling compounds on varied surfaces, preventing delamination without solvent use.

  • Bonds to concrete, gypsum, wood
  • Low VOC emissions
  • Green Star credits contribution
  • Water and ageing resistant

Tiling

Renovating Existing Floor Surfaces

Applying new floor finishes directly over existing interior ceramic tiles or water-resistant adhesive residues.

Creates a strong, reliable bonding surface on existing non-porous floor finishes or old adhesives, avoiding costly removal processes.

  • Use undiluted on ceramic tiles
  • Primes over old adhesive residues
  • Waiting time 4-5h for ceramic
  • ASTM D 1308-87 urine resistance
