Gripset LS

Gripset LS is a hard-wearing, non-slip external trafficable coating used as the finishing layer over compatible Gripset base waterproofing membranes. It is designed for UV-exposed roofs, decks, balconies, podiums and maintenance areas subject to light foot traffic; it is not a standalone elastomeric waterproofing membrane.

How LS fits the system: Use LS as a hard-wearing, non-slip finish over a compatible base membrane—such as 38FC, P39 or Xpress Multi Pro—where an exposed roof, balcony or maintenance area needs light pedestrian access. LS is not a substitute for a crack-bridging membrane on suspended decks.

What it does

Gripset LS Trafficable Coating acts as a protective, light grey, non-slip finish coat over base liquid membranes on substrates such as concrete, screeds, compressed fibre cement sheeting, exterior grade plywood, and well-bonded existing tiles or pavers. It is flexible to accommodate thermal movement, though it is non-elastomeric and must not be used as a standalone crack-bridging membrane on suspended areas. It resists algae and fungi growth, prevents water ponding degradation, and can be built up in high-film thicknesses to increase long-term durability on exposed service areas and maintenance walkways.

Numbers that matter

• Hard-wearing non-slip finish: Provides a protective walking surface for light pedestrian access over compatible waterproofing systems.
• 45% Elongation (AS1145.3): Provides controlled flexibility to move with structural substrates without cracking, while remaining non-elastomeric.
• 1.0mm minimum Dry Film Thickness (DFT): Achieved by applying two separate coats at 750 microns wet film thickness (WFT) per coat, ensuring uniform coverage of 1.5 litres/m² across the system. An optional third coat can be applied to reach 1.5mm DFT for extended service life.
• 4-hour recoat window: Allows multi-coat build-up within a single day under standard conditions (23°C and 50% relative humidity) before traffic or flood testing.
• 10-day flood-testing window: Allow about 10 days before flood testing under standard drying conditions.

Where to use it

• Rooftops: Applied as the UV-stable protective top coat over Gripset 38FC, Gripset P39, or Xpress Multi Pro base membranes.
• Decks and balconies: Protects primary elastomeric membrane systems from localized wear and weathering.
• Exposed rooftop plant and maintenance areas: Provides a dedicated, non-slip service path for maintenance personnel around machinery.
• Walkways: Serves as a standalone water-resistant, slip-resistant coating over ground-level paths, or as part of a multi-layer membrane system on suspended walkways.

Limitations

• Do not use as a standalone, elastomeric crack-bridging membrane for suspended areas. Suspended areas require a primary base layer of Gripset P-39 or Xpress Multi Pro.
• Not suitable for areas subject to vehicular traffic or heavy commercial foot traffic.
• Do not apply in areas subject to rising damp or negative hydrostatic pressure.
• Do not apply when the surface temperature is below 5°C or above 35°C, or if rain is imminent.

How to apply

All substrates must be clean, dry, and free from surface contaminants such as curing compounds, laitance, or existing failed coatings. Concrete must cure for a minimum of 28 days, and screeds or sand-cement renders for 7 days. Apply the product by brush or medium nap roller. Apply the first coat at 750 microns wet film thickness (10m² coverage per 15-litre pail) and allow to dry for 4 hours. Apply the second coat at right angles to the first coat to ensure complete, pinhole-free coverage. Use a wet film gauge during application to verify and regulate consistent film build across the entire surface area. Clean up tools and spills with water while the coating is wet; dried material must be removed mechanically.
