Everbond General Purpose PVA

Everbond General Purpose PVA bonds timber veneers, laminates and board joints for cabinetry, shopfitting and joinery. At 9300-13500 cP viscosity it spreads evenly by brush or roller without running through veneers, and cures to a hard, water-resistant bond that handles normal humidity cycles without delaminating. Apply 80-140 g/m² for surface bonding or 160-180 g/m² for assembly work. Full strength hits in about seven days, so plan your install schedule accordingly.

Deliver reliable bonds across your cabinetry, shopfitting, and joinery work. Everbond General Purpose PVA secures timber veneers, laminates, and board joints, giving you confidence that your assembled pieces will hold up to normal humidity cycles. This means less rework and more finished jobs leaving the workshop. It’s the standard you expect for everyday, high-volume production.

Why this product exists

We developed Everbond General Purpose PVA for the daily demands of cabinetmaking and joinery. It’s a synthetic resin PVA adhesive formulated to cure into a hard, translucent, and very water-resistant bond through water dissipation. Unlike many adhesives, it is non-flammable and non-toxic, providing a safer work environment. The formulation resists mould, bacteria, and fungi, ensuring your bonds remain intact and clean over time. It’s the adhesive solution for timber and laminate bonding where resistance to normal humidity cycles is critical, preventing failed glue joints that lead to delamination and costly callbacks.

The numbers that matter

At 9300-13500 cP viscosity, Everbond General Purpose PVA delivers consistent flow for both brush and roller application, ensuring even coverage without excessive run-off. This consistent spread is key for a uniform bond line that doesn't telegraph through veneers or laminates. Apply 80-140 g/m² for surface bonding or 160-180 g/m² for assembly bonding to achieve optimal adhesion and material efficiency. This controlled spread rate helps manage adhesive costs while delivering performance. Cure achieves optimal moisture equilibrium and full strength within approximately seven days. This allows for post-assembly stability before final installation, reducing the risk of joint movement. The adhesive is resistant to mould, bacteria, and fungi, protecting your joinery work against biological degradation in typical indoor environments. This extends the lifespan and maintains the integrity of your finished products.

What it's like to use

Ensure the adhesive is homogenous before use. Apply it at a minimum ambient temperature of 8°C for proper curing and bond development. Pressing or clamping is required during the cure to achieve specified minimum times, which range from 10 seconds for decorative papers to 45 minutes for board joints and blocks. Cleanup is straightforward: wash brushes, rollers, and glue baths with water before the adhesive dries.

Where this product excels

  • Cabinet Assembly: Achieve fast handling strength on board joints and blocks, allowing for efficient production flow. The bond sands easily, preparing surfaces for finishing without extra effort.
  • Timber Veneer Bonding: Form strong bonds between timber veneers and solid timber or particle board without bleed-through, preserving the aesthetic quality of your finished surfaces.
  • Laminating Decorative Papers: Secure decorative papers with quick bond times, achieving a uniform and smooth finish on furniture components or panels.
  • High-Pressure Laminate (HPL) Bonding: Use with hot-press systems at +70°C for high-speed adhesion and consistent grip on high-pressure laminates, suitable for shopfitting and interior fit-out projects.

Choose this when

  • You need a general-purpose adhesive for wood-based substrates in cabinetry, shopfitting, and joinery.
  • Bonding timber veneers, decorative papers, or high-pressure laminates to solid timber or particle board is the job.
  • Your project demands an adhesive resistant to normal humidity cycles and protection against mould and bacteria.
  • Safety and ease of use are priorities, requiring a non-flammable, non-toxic adhesive that cleans up with water.

Don't use this when

  • Not for: Applications requiring a fully waterproof bond. This adhesive is resistant to normal humidity, not continuous water immersion.
  • Not for: Use below 8°C application temperature, as proper curing will be compromised.
  • Not for: Bonding melamine boards; use Everbond Melamine PVA Adhesive for that specific substrate.
  • Not for: Instant, no-press bonding; clamping or pressing is required during the cure period.

This product is classified as non-hazardous according to Work Safe Australia. However, always consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before handling, as skin irritation and sensitisation can occur in sensitive individuals. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, eye protection, and suitable respiratory protection are recommended during use.

Frequently asked questions

Is Everbond General Purpose PVA suitable for all timber types?

Yes, this adhesive is formulated for timber and wood-based panels like timber veneer, solid timber, and particle board. It provides strong, non-staining bonds in cabinetry, shopfitting, and joinery applications.

Is this PVA adhesive waterproof?

No, Everbond General Purpose PVA is not waterproof. It is resistant to normal humidity cycles but is not designed for continuous water exposure or immersion.

How can I speed up the curing process?

Curing can be accelerated by hot pressing. For increased water resistance, thermo-curing with the addition of catalyst number 1 at 1% w/w is recommended. Typical thermo-curing cycles range from 30 seconds at 80°C to 30 seconds at 130°C for veneers.

Can Everbond General Purpose PVA be used with high-pressure laminates?

Yes, it is suitable for surface gluing of high-pressure laminates. Minimum pressing time for these applications in short-cycle presses (+70°C) is 60 seconds.

Applying Everbond General Purpose PVA: Protocols & Best Practices

General Application Steps:
  1. Preparation: Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free from oil or dust. Light sanding may improve bond strength.
  2. Application: Apply evenly using brush or roller. Use appropriate pressure via clamps or presses. Maintain substrate temp above 8°C.
  3. Tooling & Finishing: Wipe off excess with damp cloth. Do not allow adhesive to dry on tools. Clean with water immediately.
  4. Curing: Full bond strength develops over 7 days. Accelerate cure using heat or catalyst for high-performance applications.
Trade-Specific Scenario Guides:
For Joiners: Block Joining for Cabinet Carcasses

The Engineering Challenge: Achieving rapid and uniform bond strength across multiple timber contact points during carcass assembly.

The System-Based Solution with Everbond GP: Short press times and balanced viscosity enable quick setup without slippage, even in horizontal clamps.

Best Practice Note: Use clamps or press pressure of 4–5 kp/cm² for optimal hold; clean off squeeze-out immediately to reduce sanding time later.

Product limitations

  • Not for: Applications requiring continuous immersion or full waterproof performance. This product is resistant to normal humidity cycles but is not designed as a waterproof adhesive.
