For high-strength structural bonding across industrial substrates, Acribond Acrylic Foam Tape - Grey relies on viscoelastic acrylic adhesive flow to build a permanent, load-bearing bond. The tape requires mechanical pressure during application to initiate contact, after which the acrylic core continues to wet out the surfaces to reach full bonding strength.
How the bond develops
Unlike standard adhesive tapes that rely on immediate surface tack alone, Acribond wet-flows into the microscopic peaks and valleys of the substrates. It reaches approximately 50% of its bonding capacity within 20 minutes of application under pressure, allowing parts to be handled or moved through assembly stages. The adhesive continues to flow and build strength over the following days, achieving its full structural bond after approximately 72 hours, depending on ambient temperatures.

- 50% bond strength at 20 minutes: Provides high initial adhesion to hold parts in place quickly during assembly.
- 72-hour full cure window: The time required for the viscoelastic adhesive to fully flow and achieve maximum bond strength.
- 100 kPa (15 psi) application pressure: The mechanical force required with a roller or flat tool to activate the bond.
- 21°C to 35°C application temperature: The optimal temperature range that allows the adhesive to flow and make maximum contact with the substrate.
Substrate preparation and limitations
- Porous materials: All porous substrates must be sealed before the tape is applied to prevent the adhesive from absorbing unevenly.
- Surface contaminants: Surfaces must be cleaned with a solvent such as an isopropyl alcohol (IPA)/water mix. If grease, oil, or mould release agents are present, Acribond Prep is required.
- Oxidation and profile: Substrates should be lightly abraded with a scourer pad to remove surface corrosion, dirt, or oxidation, then wiped in a single direction with a clean, lint-free cloth and solvent to remove loose particles.
- Cold temperatures: Standard Acribond applies best above 21°C; for applications in colder conditions, the Acribond A3000 series is recommended.
