Use Moisture Seal for: Preventing moisture ingress, vapour transmission, and rising damp in various construction applications, protecting surfaces and ensuring the longevity of overlaid flooring systems, waterproofing membranes, and decorative finishes.

RLA Moisture Seal is a high-performance, two-part, water-based epoxy primer and barrier coating system designed to prevent moisture ingress, vapour transmission, and rising damp. This versatile system is ideal for various applications, including priming concrete and masonry surfaces, protecting against hydrostatic pressure, and acting as a moisture barrier for decorative finishes. With its outstanding adhesion properties and compatibility with various RLA membranes and coatings, Moisture Seal ensures long-lasting protection against moisture-related damage.

Key Features of Moisture Seal

  • Water-based, solvent-free, and low VOC
  • Withstands up to 25 metres or up to 250 kPa of hydrostatic pressure
  • Can be applied to damp and "green" concrete
  • Extended pot life
  • Outstanding adhesion properties
  • Fully compatible with RLA membranes, coatings, adhesives, and levelling compounds
  • Complies with AS 4020 for potable water storage

Technical Overview

  • Chemical Properties: 2-part water-based epoxy
  • Application Temperature Range: 10°C to 35°C

Trade Professional Information

  • Required Tools: Mixing pail, electric stirrer with paddle attachment, squeegee, stiff nylon broom, medium/long nap roller, wet film thickness gauge, sandpaper (if necessary).
  • Trade-Specific Tips: Ensure thorough surface preparation, including cleaning and levelling the substrate. Use a wet film thickness gauge to ensure proper application thickness. Allow adequate drying time between coats and before applying subsequent finishes. For specific application requirements, refer to the product data sheet or contact RLA Technical Department.
  • Common Issues and Solutions: Avoid application in temperatures below 10°C or above 35°C, or when relative humidity exceeds 80%, as these conditions can affect the cure rate. Do not apply to steel/metal surfaces to prevent corrosion. For substrates with active water leaks, treat with a suitable hydraulic setting cement/water plug before applying Moisture Seal.

Storage and Shelf Life

  • Storage Requirements: Store in original, unopened packaging in a dry area at room temperature. Keep off cold floors and out of direct sunlight.
  • Shelf Life Information: 12 months from the date of production.
  • Temperature Considerations: Avoid storing in extreme temperatures to maintain product integrity.

Certifications

  • AS 4020

Application Guide

  1. Prepare surface by cleaning, leveling, and removing contaminants.
  2. Mix Parts A and B at a 1:1 ratio until homogenous.
  3. Apply using a roller or squeegee for uniform coverage.
  4. For a vapour barrier, apply 1 coat (200 µm wet film thickness).
  5. For moisture barrier applications, apply 2 coats perpendicular to each other.

Moisture Seal limitations:

  • Do not apply when surface or ambient temperatures are below 10°C or above 35°C
  • Do not apply when relative humidity exceeds 80%
  • Do not apply to steel/metal surfaces
  • Not to be applied over standing water
  • Not designed as a trafficable surface
  • Not to be used as a finished coating subject to permanent UV exposure
  • Wear appropriate PPE, including gloves and eye protection.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation during application, especially in enclosed areas.
  • Avoid skin and eye contact.

Moisture Seal can be used on the following substrates:

  • Concrete & concrete block
  • GRC – glass reinforced concrete
  • Screed and render
  • Masonry
