DOWSIL 795 Silicone Building Sealant is a one-part, neutral-cure silicone for architectural weathersealing and specifically designed structural glazing applications. It bonds to selected glazing and construction materials while remaining flexible as façades respond to wind, temperature and building movement.

Where DOWSIL 795 fits

DOWSIL 795 is used in structural and non-structural glazing, selected architectural panel attachment and façade weathersealing. It is especially relevant when a project requires both adhesion and movement performance, with joint dimensions, substrates and load paths determined as part of the complete glazing or façade design.

DOWSIL 795 or 791?

For ordinary window perimeters, curtain wall weatherseals and other non-structural façade joints, DOWSIL 791 is the dedicated weathersealing option. Choose DOWSIL 795 where a project calls for a silicone with potential structural glazing capability and that use has been assessed and approved as a complete system.

Before specifying or installing

Structural glazing is an engineered application. Substrate adhesion, compatibility, glass or panel design, joint dimensions, sealant bite, loading and quality-control requirements must be reviewed for the specific project. Do not assume a product's structural-grade formulation automatically approves any glass, stone or cladding attachment. Prepare clean, dry substrates and use the specified primers, spacers and backing materials where required.

Important limitations

  • Do not use for structural glazing or panel attachment without suitable project-specific design, testing and approval.
  • Do not assume primerless adhesion or non-staining performance on every substrate; verify compatibility, especially with natural stone, coatings and plastics.
  • Do not use on wet surfaces, in fully moisture-excluded joints or where cured silicone needs to be painted.
  • For below-grade, continuous-immersion or other unusual exposure conditions, confirm suitability before selection.

Can Dowsil 795 be used for structural glazing?
Yes, it meets ASTM C 1184, but structural applications require prior review and written approval from a Dow sales application engineer.

How much movement can Dowsil 795 accommodate?
It is rated for ±50% joint movement to ASTM C 719.

Will Dowsil 795 stain natural stone?
ASTM C 1248 testing records no staining on granite, marble, limestone, brick and concrete.

Can Dowsil 795 be painted?
No. It should not be specified where the cured sealant needs to be painted.

Uses & Benefits

How To Apply  
Clean joints thoroughly and remove grease, oil, dust, water, frost, old sealant, glazing compounds and protective coatings. Surfaces must be dry and structurally sound. Install the specified backing rod, joint filler, setting blocks or spacer shims and mask adjacent surfaces where required. Apply Dowsil 795 continuously under positive pressure so the sealant contacts both joint faces without trapped air. Tool with light pressure before a skin forms, within about 15 minutes, then remove masking tape immediately. For structural glazing, complete the required Dow application review and approval before installation.
Limitations and Safety Info  
Do not use for structural applications without prior review and written approval from a Dow sales application engineer. Do not use below grade, on continuously immersed surfaces, or on wet or frost-laden substrates. Do not install when substrate surface temperatures exceed 50°C. Do not use on materials that bleed oils, plasticisers or solvents. Do not use in totally confined joints where atmospheric moisture cannot reach the sealant. Do not use where the sealant must be painted. Do not use in direct food contact, medical or pharmaceutical applications.
