Adheseal Mineral Turpentine is a trade solvent for cleaning oil-based paint, grease and oily residues from compatible brushes, tools and workshop equipment. It can also thin certain oil-based paints and coatings when their instructions specify mineral turpentine.
Often called mineral turps, it belongs to the same general solvent family as white spirits. The names can overlap, so choose by the exact product specification and the paint or adhesive manufacturer's directions rather than assuming a particular grade will suit every job.
Where mineral turpentine is useful
- Paint brush clean-up: loosening uncured, solvent-compatible oil-based paint from brushes and rollers.
- Workshop degreasing: wiping grease and oil from compatible metal tools and machinery parts.
- Oil-based coating thinning: diluting only coatings that expressly allow mineral turpentine.
- General maintenance: cleaning solvent-resistant equipment before further preparation.
Before using
Test the material first, particularly plastics, paintwork, rubber and other sensitive finishes. Mineral turpentine is not a substitute for water-based paint clean-up or a specialist adhesive cleaner. Let residues evaporate completely before coating or sealing a surface.
This is a flammable hazardous solvent. Work with ventilation and suitable protective equipment, keep away from heat and sparks, and store and dispose of used solvent and wipes according to the relevant SDS. Oily rags contaminated with drying oils or paints may present additional self-heating risks; do not treat every solvent-soaked rag as the same hazard.
